Abstract Standards concerning meat and meat products provide a basis for ensuring the quality and safety of meat products. With the upgrading of China’s meat consumption, the quality and safety of meat products has become a matter of increasing public concern. This article reviews the existing standards concerning meat and meat products in China, which are classified into compulsory and recommended ones. We point out that there are still some problems in this regard such as unbalanced distribution, overlap and repetition and slow updating, and we put forward some countermeasures and suggestions.
